Concept · the brief I set

The practice
An invented cosmetic dentist in a Georgian house in central Bath, with its ceramist working upstairs.
The idea
The building and the craft inside it give the practice its character: the dentist on one floor, the person who makes the teeth on the next.
For
Patients who want calm, careful work, and need the fee, the visits and the way to book to be clear.

Tallis is a concept, not a real practice. Every name, fee, case and review on the site is an example. The photographs are illustrations, not patients.

01 · Where it started

Three practices to choose from.

I gathered five worlds of images, from porcelain in daylight to black and white fashion portraits, and turned three of them into invented practices. For each one I wrote down who it would suit before building anything.

Tallis joined two of those worlds: warm rooms in window light, and the maker's bench.

02 · What changed

From cream paper to a Georgian paint color.

The first version was a quiet catalog on cream paper. Beside Solenne it looked too similar, and the drawn house didn't convince yet.

So the whole page became a Georgian paint color, with warm white kept for the trim, as on the house itself. Of the three colors I tried, library green was the calmest, and it leaves the oxblood front door as the one warm note. That door is where you book.

03 · The house

The building is the way around.

The home page opens on the front of the house. As you scroll, it grows around the first-floor window until you're through the glass, in the room where the dentist sees you.

From there, every section says which floor it's on: the dentist on the first floor, the ceramist's bench on the second, the fees and the front door on the ground floor. On the booking page, that door swings open.

On phones, and for anyone who turns motion off, the house stays still.

04 · What a patient reads

The fee and the number of visits come first.

Each treatment page gives the fee and the number of visits before anything else. The fees page lists every price in pounds, and booking asks one question at a time.

The wording is careful with titles and promises. Dr Lowe, the dentist, is described as a dentist with a special interest in cosmetic work, not as a specialist, and nothing promises a painless visit.
